A Great Mentor is Key to Early Success
Those fortunate enough to have great mentors know that they provide immense opportunities for personal and professional growth. They provide important guidance and can even help open doors to big breaks. If you are hoping to find a valuable mentor/mentee relationship, here is where to start:
- Don’t be too afraid to seek it out. Young professionals are the people that will most benefit from this relationship and they are often too timid to pursue it. Show initiative. Put in the effort. It will be worth it.
- Recognize your strengths and the opportunities that have been provided to you. Don’t take the menial tasks for granted, these may be your time to shine. If one person notices your hard work, it is likely they will be happy to provide more opportunities.
- Every relationship is a two-way street. If you have found a mentor willing to help you further your career, be willing to put in the time and hours.
The benefits of a good mentor can outweigh many things you learn in the classroom. With foresight and humility, you can find a valuable mentorship of your own.
As one of the greatest mentors once said, “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” – Yoda
