Myths About Video
There’re many myths out there holding people back from implementing video in their business plans. Well I’m here today to dispel those myths.
Video is expensive
Many people think that videos require piles of money to make, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars or use top of the line equipment just to send your message to others. The video above only cost us…$0 to make and you don’t even need any of this equipment we’re using!
Video is inconvenient
In today’s world, video and inconvenient have become antonyms. Most of you reading this video have a camera in your pocket or on your desk in the form of a webcam. It is easier than ever to make videos, especially when you create personalized video messages. As long as you don’t get wrapped up in the idea that they require massive productions.

Recording videos is time-consuming
I don’t know about you, but when I have to write a follow-up email it can sometimes take 5-10 minutes. Trying to make the email personal and include the correct gram and punctuation takes time. Check this video script below! Not only will it sound like me but I don’t have to worry if there are too many exclamation points. With video messages I can deliver my message like I would in-person.
“Hi, Mark! It was great getting the chance to talk to you today. I loved the amazing ideas you were throwing out there about ways to use video. Let’s talk again soon about those ideas! Bye”
And it’s as simple as that!
You have to look professional
Many still believe looks and appearances are standing in their way of creating good videos. Of course, you probably shouldn’t record a video in your pajamas. The most important quality in your videos is your personality. Simply be yourself. On that note, being camera-shy or making mistakes is perfectly fine. Nobody is perfect and no one expects you to be.
The ideal video length is 3 minutes max
There are so many myths out there about the ideal length of a video, but this is really hard to determine in practice. Research has shown that the average time a viewer will watch a video before clicking away is 2 minutes and 53 seconds. This can’t be held as the golden rule. Content of your video is the most important ingredient because if the content is dull and lacks purpose it may seem too long at 30 seconds. It really depends what your video is all about and how interesting your information is to the person watching. Also, it depends what type of video you are sending. If it’s a sales video, of course the old K.I.S.S. (keep it short and simple) rule always works, but remember this doesn’t have to apply to all!
Also, don’t forget about your email subject! A great welcome email subject line or a follow-up email subject line may help increase your email open rate. Feedback is hard to measure
When you use a video platform that only shows the number of views, you cannot track how efficient your video is in real-time. Just think about how many times you have clicked on a video by accident or clicked on a video and closed it because you decided that the content is not of your interest. This is why the number of views is not enough if you want to improve your sales approach and track your audience. When looking at your video analytics in the Covideo platform you’ll see from where and when the video was viewed. It also shows how many times it was viewed, and which parts of the video are engaging your recipients the most.
This gives you better insight on who your customers are and allows you to track your success. So, when incorporating video into a digital strategy you’ll have more information you have at your disposal, the better informed decisions you can make moving forward.
And just like that, Myths dispelled. Now there’s nothing holding you back from using video in your business plan.
