A study conducted by researchers from Columbia University and California State University found that there is an advantage to dressing up for the workday. The way you dress for work has a significant impact on your thought process. More formal business attire led to more “big-picture” thinking while casual wear limited an employee’s cognitive processing. Study co-author Michael Slepian explained the research results to Huffington Post. “Formal clothing made people feel more powerful, which in turn made them more likely to adopt high-level, abstract thinking,” Slepian said. “The suit is a symbol of power.”
